Our Email is handled by a derivative of Qmail: Qmail-LDAP and by the Dovecot IMAP server. The LDAP directory service required by them is provided by an OpenLDAP server.

Email nowadays not only deals with receiving and dispatching Emails both to local and remote addresses via SMTP but also with countermeasures against Spam and attacks against the operating system.

Email coming in from the Internet is filtered by blacklists and tested against some confidentiality criteria on one of two servers dedicated to this tasks. Remaining Email is delivered to the server which hosts the homedirectories of our customers, or their mailboxes, respectively.

On-the-wire encryption for the three services is provided by OpenSSL.
